What actually changed

The top multiplier doubled. In the original, multiplier symbols range from 2x to 500x. In the 1000 version they range from 2x to 1,000x. In the 1000 version, multipliers are combined at the end of a tumble sequence. In both games, multipliers that land in free spins add to a running total.

Free spins can now extend. In Gates of Olympus 1000, landing 3 or more scatters during free spins adds 5 more spins. Pragmatic Play’s page for the original does not mention a retrigger.

Pragmatic Play also publishes a max win for the sequel. It gives Gates of Olympus 1000 a max win of 15,000x the bet. It does not publish a max win for the original on the pages we read, so we do not list one.

What stayed the same

The RTP is the same 96.50% default in both, so the long-run cost is the same: 3.50 per 100 spins at a 1.00 stake, on average. Wins are never guaranteed. Casinos can run lower RTP versions of either game, so check the information screen before you play. See slot RTP versions.

Which one suits you

The two games cost the same over the long run. The 1000 version has the higher multiplier ceiling and a published max win. Pragmatic Play describes the original as highly volatile and does not give the 1000 version a rating, so we cannot compare them on volatility.

If you like the format but want a different theme, Starlight Princess uses the same pays anywhere wins, 2x to 500x multipliers and 15 free spins.
